Playa Manzanillo

While there are not many tourist services up and running in the area just yet, Manzanillo being a relative latecomer to the Costa Rican tourism industry, there are still ample activities for visitors to partake in. While swimming is not advisable (the ocean being rather rocky around these parts), there are excellent opportunities for snorkeling, especially in the nearby lagoon that is rich in exotic marine life. Although the waves are not always reliable and friendly, keen surfers who undertake their favoured activity in periods when the winds are just right will be rewarded with an extraordinary display when the waves swell and break on the multihued offshore coral reef.

A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended for those planning to drive to Playa Manzanillo, as the roads leading to the place can be very rough, and it is near impossible to brave the conditions during the winter months. Those who brave those dirt roads during the warmer months will find themselves well compensated for their efforts, however, by this beautiful and breathtaking environment that is just beginning to come into its own.
