Playa Santa Teresa
Situated on the central Pacific Coast, in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula in the north of the Puntarenas province, and around a hundred and fifty kilometers west of the capital city of San Jose, Playa Santa Teresa is often described as being the most beautiful beach in the whole of Costa Rica. It is a bold claim, certainly, especially given the fierce competition for such an accolade, but one not entirely without foundation.
The beautiful white/grey sandy beach is private and secluded, and world wide renowned for its swells, which are consistently superb all the year round, resulting in the opportunities for surfing which are some of the best in the entire country and in Playa Santa Maria having become a surfing hot spot among international surfers. Other activities for tourists who are not into the surfing scene include hiking, horseback riding, and canopy tours. There are also plenty of opportunities for simply enjoying the natural environment, sunbathing on the seashore, taking part in a deep sea fishing expedition, exploring the native fauna and flora, or taking a trip to the nearby Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve which is just a few minutes drive away.
Playa Santa Teresa is accessible via a domestic flight from the Juan Santa Maria International Airport to Tambor (which takes around twenty five minutes), from which Playa Santa Teresa can be easily reached by bus or taxi. Alternatively, being situated around twelve kilometers southeast of Cabano means that another speedy way of reaching the area is by taking a ferry from Paquera.
All in all, Playa San Maria is one place that no beach loving tourist coming to Costa Rica can afford to miss out on.
