| Local Information |
Ciudad Quesada, Costa Rica
Situated in the district of Quesada in the canton of San Carlos in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica, Ciudad Quesada is about ninety seven kilometers away from the capital city of San Jose and is widely regarded as being of the nicest towns in the whole country.
Known as San Carlos by the locals because of its place at the heart of the green valley of the San Carlos plain, Ciudad Quesada is most frequently used as a jumping off point by tourists eager to get to such popular attractions as La Fortuna and of course the Arenal Volcano, which it is situated southeast from. However, Ciudad Quesada contains more than enough attractions of its own to be a worthwhile place for tourists to stay a while and explore.
It has beautiful scenery including rolling green hills, a nice cool climate, a movie theater and a splendid nightlife. There are also lots of souvenir places where visitors can pick up such items as horse saddles, personalized cowboy belts and various other local arts and crafts items. The locals are friendly and there is plenty of authentic Costa Rican cuisine on offer.
The area is also known as the home of the Feria del Ganado (cattle fair and auction) which is held every April and comes as part of a more general carnival, with rides etc. There are several accommodations in the area, including a couple that include the town's lovely hot springs as part of the package.
Ciudad Quesada is easily accessible via a major bus route from San Jose or by rental car.
