Paraiso Costa Rica

You can get to Paraiso by taking one of the buses that leave regularly from the Coca Cola Bus Station in San Jose. Along the way you can enjoy amazing scenery. Paraiso is among the first places that were colonized by the Spanish when they arrived and it means paradise in English.

The key attraction of Paraiso is the Lankester Botanical Gardens. They are named after the British botanist Charles Lankester who came in the nineteen hundreds to plant coffee. Today the garden is home to six hundred of the total fourteen hundred native orchid species. The gardens are managed by the University of Costa Rica. The best time to visit this garden is between the months of February and April since this is the flowering season and at this time hundreds of birds are drawn to the gardens.

Paraiso is also famous for its farmers market that occurs in the center of the town. The town center is welcoming place that has lots of local sodas with excellent views. On the outskirts of the town there is a small shopping mall called the Paraiso Shopping Center that was built recently. This shopping center has its own movie theater, a pharmacy, grocery stores and a couple of fast food restaurants.
