Playa San Miguel
Situated in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, about eight kilometers from Corozalita, Playa San Miguel is one long, uninterrupted stretch of white sand which connects to the beach of Playa Coyote, although it is divided from it by the estuary and the mouth of the Jabilla river. It stretches for almost six miles along the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by hills, offering stunning ocean views and a beautiful green landscape comprised of typically littoral vegetation, and is a prime nesting site for turtles.
There is an almost endless array of possible activities for tourists in the area, including hiking tours, biking tours, horseback riding and kayaking. The surfing in the area is renowned for its excellence, with smooth, consistent and long-lasting swells being regular and easy to find. The differing currents and natural pools mean that there are places in the area that are safe for swimmers of almost all ages and skill levels.
The local wildlife includes howler monkeys, which visitors will almost inevitably see or at least hear during their stay. There are several choices for accommodation at Playa San Miguel, including hotels and a camp site with a simple bar and restaurant. Playa San Miguel is accessible via a side road that extends two kilometers to the north and the south along the shoreline.
If Costa Rica is world renowned for its beaches, then Playa San Miguel is possibly the most renowned of all, and is an absolute must for tourists who want to experience the absolute best of one of the nation's most famous attractions.
