Playa Negra Costa Rica

There is also a large residential development called he Rancho Playa Negra. There are larger more upscale developments on the drawing board for this town. The local beach is rocky and has very dark and hard packed sand. Small mangrove trees edge the beach and you can find some excellent views of the coastline to the north.

Playa Negra features some of the most consistent waves and surf in the region. Because of this it has become a popular surfer beach in the northwestern region of the Gunanacaste province of Costa Rica. The town became famous when the movie Endless Summer II was filmed there. The surf at Playa Negra makes it an excellent place for beginning as well as experienced surfers. The surf break is a hollow right break reef that can get a bit crowded. If you can catch a good swell it is well worth the crowd to surf at this beach.

You can find a number of good vacation rentals, hotels, resorts and accommodations in Playa Negra. There are also several budget lodgings to choose from because of the surfer crowd. They have the renowned Cafe Playa Negra which has excellent local delicacies. If you are interested in surfing you can head a bit further south from the main beach and find some nice secluded places for some peace and quiet a good area for beginners.
