La Uruca, Costa Rica
A district of the capital city of San Jose in Costa Rica, La Uruca is the second biggest neighborhood in the canton (after Pavas) and a hugely important industrial, commercial and transportation hub.
Visitors to La Uruca will find themselves close to all sorts of attractions and amenities, including casinos, parks, museums, bars and restaurants, shopping facilities and even the nearby airport. La Uruca also plays host to the one and only amusement park in the whole of Costa Rica, the Parque Nacional de Diversiones, which covers over forty four acres of land and offers more than eighty recreational activities and various games, including riding on Costa Rican oxcart (for children), sampling the history of the nation with Pueblo Antiguo, or going through a mock up version of the Tortuguero Canals.
More traditional amusement park activities are also included, such as water slides, go carts, electric trains, or thrilling rides such as the Spymaster, the Cyclone and the Hurricane. All profits from the Parque Nacional de Diversiones go to charity, so visitors are not only having a fun time but also helping the local community.Tourists can even go for a ride in miniature replicas of antique cars.
La Uruca is easily accessible from San Jose along the Pan American Highway and there are countless accommodation possibilities, including both budget and more expensive options such as hotels and bed and breakfast establishments. It is also easy to access beaches and National Parks from the area and there are other activities available, including horseback riding.
