San Isidro Del General, Costa Rica
Situated in the Valley of El General, the small town of San Isidro Del General is around a hundred twenty kilometers southeast away from the Costa Rican capital city of San Jose, and twenty nine kilometers northeast from Dominical in the province of Puntarenas.
San Isidro Del General is an agricultural town and an important transportation section of the Valley not far away from the Pan American Highway on the hills of the Talamanca Mountains. The place has plenty to offer tourists, being a wonderful midway point between such destinations as Dominical, Quepos, the Chirripo National Park and the Manuel Antonio National Park.
In February, tourists can enjoy the sights and sounds of San Isidro's annual cattle show and fair, with just a few kilometers away in the Boruca Indian village of Rey Curre, another festival, the Fiesta of the Diablos, also being held around the same time, which features some fantastic traditional Boruca Indian handcrafted decorations and masks. The town also offers a multitude of cafes and restaurants, and there are many hotels for accommodation purposes in the area.
No traveler to San Isidro Del General can leave town without visiting some of the nearby attractions such as the Las Quebradas Biological Station, the ancient town of Piedra del Indio and the infamous Cerra de la Muerte, otherwise known as the Mountain of Death, which offers stunning scenic views of the valley and surrounding areas.
The area is best accessible by bus from San Jose or rental car.
