Atenas Costa Rica

Atenas is a small, quaint, lively town in Costa Rica. It is located on the road from San Jose to the Pacific beaches. The local population are friendly and the restaurants are cheap with excellent food and very picturesque views. You can go to the square in the center of town and spend the day people watching. The local church is also real beautiful to see.

If you don't need to drive around a lot while your in Atenas then you may want to consider just taking a cab. It is easy to find cabs in Atenas because they typically line up near the bus station and they are painted a bright red. All the cab companies in Atenas are professional, safe and cheap. The cabs can take you anywhere around town for just a couple of dollars and they will even take you as far as the airport for under twenty dollars.

The El Cafetal Inn is a good option when staying in Atenas. It is just twenty minutes from the nearest airport. It is a lovely two story house with rounded, glass corner alcoves that provide picturesque views of the Colorado River Valley and the fields of coffee and sugarcane. You can also see the city of Alajuela and part of Heredia. You also have views of three volcanoes Poas, Barva and Irazu.
