San Ramon is found in the beautiful Central Valley of Costa Rica in the Alajuela province. It is in the second largest district in the province and it sits an hour away from the capital of San Jose to the northwest. From Alajuela city San Ramon is easily accessible by road. It is surrounded by a dramatic landscape of mountain region. It is a close-knit town and the local population has strong community ties with a slow relaxed way of life.
To get to San Ramon you can fly into the Juan Santa Maria International Airport in San Jose and then drive out directly to the city. Or if you are in no hurry you can drive to Alajuela first and enjoy the sights of that city before heading on to San Ramon. No matter which route you take you will enjoy beautiful views on your drive to San Ramon.
San Ramon is known as the city of presidents and poets since many of Costa Rica's political and literary figures were either born or have lived at some time in San Ramon. Former Presidents Jose Figueres Ferrer and Rodrigi Carazo as well as the poets Lisimaco Chavarria Palms and Feliz Angel Salas Cabezas.
At the main square of the city there is an impressive church that was made in Germany from metal and shipped to Costa Rica in parts that were later welded together. North of the town square there is the Museo de San Ramon which is the cities museum that contains a re-creation of a traditional campesino home and focuses on San Ramon's part in Costa Rican history and culture.
