Costa Rica South Pacific Activities

Playa Zancudo

Cool Blue and expansive Zancudo lies near the banana port of Golfito, along the awe-inspiring southern pacific coats of the Costa Rica. Zancudo is really famous for the multicultural community and is still to be discovered. The ecstatic serene scene of the sparkling blue water fringed artistically by the coconut and the almond trees under the endless blue sky deliver a genuine sense of eternal liberty.

Expanded up to about 6 miles along the Gulfo Dulce is the remote Playa Zancudo - a region in one of the extreme areas of Costa Rica. Not being disturbed much by the tourists, the peaceful Zancudo is a natural home for the wildlife, birds and the spectacular marine animals. Zancudo - the little jewel of Costa Rica, enjoys a pleasant weather with a soothing cool ocean breeze all round the year. There is actually a negligible difference of the temperature between the month of August and January. The lush verdancy of the native mangrove and the coconut palm all along the shore of Playa Zancudo lends a special beauty to the beach. Corcovado National Park is only a stone throw away distant form the Zancudo. It takes only an hour to reach Corcovado National Park by an enjoyable boat ride.

Surrounded on the other sides by the beautiful river Rio Coto Colorado and the expansive Gulfo Dulce, Zancudo's eccentric beauty is doubtlessly a never to be forgettable episode that any one would like to treasure for lifetime. Among many sophisticated hotels, a few worth mentioning are the Oasis on the beach, Tiskita Lodge, Roy's Zancudo lodge, cabinas Los Cocos and more.

A short journey of about 35 km westward from the Golfito or approximately 90 km on roads travel and 85 southward of Palmar Norte, there lies a tiny beautiful bustling burg known as Puerto Jimenez. A great section of the population of this little town is the gold planners. The languid pace of the life, the green nature expansive soccer ground, mealy parrots and multicolored macaws amidst the cool blue sky are the real essence of the town. Being located at the southeastern end of the Osa peninsula the region enjoys a soothing climate with a pleasant temperature. In order to enjoy the feel of eternal freedom the eco-tourists and the celebrities from far and wide comes to this town almost all round the year.

Puerto Jimenez

While the day life seems to be busy and full of actions, it gradually comes to a tranquil state with the onset of crimson evening. The life during the night becomes so sleepy that sometimes a sense of lifelessness overshadows the city life. The nightlife of Puerto Jimenez becomes quite rowdy as well - especially when the gold panners find some money in their hand.

The Corcovado National Park is very near to Puerto Jimenez and has its administrative head quarters here. A great section of the tourists enjoys the excursion to the Concovado National Park. There exist many hotels and means of accommodations in Puerto Jimenez and the worth mentioning of which are Bosque Del Cabo, Iguana lodge, Parrot Bay Village, Agua Luna and Crocodile Bay Lodge. Since some of these accommodations are really expensive, a very short journey farther southward on the Osa Peninsula may be a wonderful solution.

Playa Uvita

Playa Uvita is among the most stunning beaches on Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast. Located in the southern Puntarenas province roughly 16 km south of Dominical. Playa Uvita is a 2-mile white sand beach with moderate waves and crystal clear blue waters. Playa Uvita, which the authoritative Frommer’s Guide calls one of the six most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Uvita is famous locally for its untouched beauty and uniqueness on the Pacific coast.
Playa Uvita is incredible: mile after mile of empty beach stretching far down the coast with only the occasional person or two to encounter. In low tide the water is at least 100 yards from the palm-filled jungle edge. The jungle trees are extremely beautiful.

Uvita offers wonderful views from the beach of a rocky, offshore island called Isla Ballena. It means "the island of whales", and is named for the whales that are often spotted off the island during their migratory pathways. Away from the shoreline, one can see the true appeal of Uvita. Invisible to anyone on the beach is a massive range of mountains that soar high above the jungle, creating a wonderful backdrop for the tropical beaches below. Great place to swim and to have picnics.

Accommodations are plentiful at Playa Uvita with many budget hotels, vacation rentals  and rustic lodges in the area. If you want to stay on the beach, there are cabinas and rooms available for rent. There are also plenty of local and cozy bars and restaurants to eat at as well.
